INDIANAPOLIS — Three people are left injured after a shooting on the canal in downtown Indianapolis early Saturday morning.
According to IMPD, just before 3:30 a.m. June 21, officers responded to a report of shots fired at the 400 block of Indiana Avenue, near West Michigan Street and North West Street.
When officers arrived, they said they found one juvenile male and two men shot. IMPD said the victims were reported to be “awake and breathing.”Â
Investigators found multiple shell casings, a handgun and a rifle on scene.Â
IMPD said several people were detained on scene, but it’s unclear what their involvement is, if any.Â
Police said at this point in the investigation it’s also unclear if the people involved know each other or not.Â

“What happened down here on the Canal tonight is unacceptable,” said IMPD Ofc. Drew Brown. “We had a few individuals who were involved in some sort of disturbance who made the deliberate decision to bring firearms to a gem of our city, one of the most beautiful family-friendly places in our city, and to bring violence to that area and to pull the trigger and subsequently lives were changed forever because of this and the whole entire city can feel that impact.”Â
Police believe this is an isolated incident and there is no ongoing threat to the public.Â
