Officials spotted a fire on College Avenue next to a dumpster, and a man lying on the ground surrounded by burning debris.
WATERVILLE, Maine — A Waterville man was charged with arson on Thursday following a dumpster fire on College Avenue.
Waterville Fire and Rescue had responded to a medical call around 2:30 a.m. when they noticed a fire next to a dumpster and a building near 44 College Avenue, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss wrote in a news release.
Moss said the police and fire departments found 47-year-old Jason Woods lying on the ground with a bunch of debris on fire around him. Officers then pulled the debris away to prevent Woods from getting burned.
Officials said minor damage was done to the dumpster, but it was determined the fire was intentionally set.
Woods was taken to Kennebec County Jail and charged with Arson.
