Three tornadoes confirmed in Michigan

The National Weather Service (NWS) has confirmed that three tornadoes touched down in Michigan Thursday night.

An EF-0 tornado touched down between Kalamazoo and Calhoun counties Thursday night, according to the NWS.

This tornado, which reportedly had a wind speed of up to 80 mph, traveled east from Galesburg to Battle Creek, officials said.

The NWS said another EF-0 tornado touched down near St. Mary’s Lake near Battle Creek.

An EF-1 tornado reportedly touched down north of Charlotte and traveled east towards Lansing, according to the NWS.

Looking ahead, National Weather Service survey crews are expected to survey storm damage in the following counties starting Friday and throughout the weekend:

  • Allegan
  • Barry
  • Calhoun
  • Eaton
  • Ingham
  • Ionia
  • Kalamazoo
  • Kent

However, their surveys may not only be limited to those areas.

More storms are expected to move through West Michigan Friday night, though a repeat of Thursday’s storms are not likely, according to News Channel 3 meteorologists.
