‘Good Night, And Good Luck’ Will Tour And “Might” Go To London, George Clooney Says

George Clooney dropped by Late Night with Seth Meyers on Monday night to plug this Saturday’s live broadcast of his Broadway play Good Night, and Good Luck when he let slip what could be a bit of good news for the West End: The play might end in London.

“There’s going to be a roadshow for it,” Clooney told Meyers, “and I think it might end up in London, but it won’t be the same thing as what we’re doing now.” No more hints were given (watch the interview below).

A representative for the production confirmed the accuracy of Clooney’s comments.

Good Night, and Good Luck, written by Clooney and Grant Heslov based on their 2005 film, began previews at Broadway’s Winter Garden Theatre on March 12, opened April 3 and closes with the June 8 matinee ahead of that night’s Tony Awards. The play has been nominated for five Tonys including Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Play (Clooney), scenic design, sound design, lighting design and costume design.

CNN will broadcast the penultimate performance of Good Night, and Good Luck from Broadway’s Winter Garden Theatre at 7 p.m. ET Saturday, June 7, across CNN and CNN International and will stream the event live on CNN.com and via CNN’s apps on connected TVs and mobile devices, without requiring a cable login. This CNN special event will stream live on Max across all subscription plans.

Good Night, and Good Luck tells the real-life story of CBS journalist Edward R. Murrow (Clooney) and his legendary showdown with Red Scare Senator Joseph McCarthy. Directed by David Cromer, the play routinely has set box office records, grossing in excess of $4 million per week to become the biggest weekly-grossing play in Broadway history. The production recouped its $9.5 million investment last month.

If and when the play does hit the road or go to London, it’s not at all clear whether Clooney would go with it. On Late Night, the actor expressed a strong desire to lose the jet-black hair dye needed for the role. “The last show is Sunday, we do a matinee, and then by the time we go to the Tonys that night, it’ll be gone. I may have a shaved head.”
