‘Street Fighter’ Movie Adds Andrew Schulz To Cast — Exclusive

EXCLUSIVE: Legendary’s feature adaptation of the Capcom video game Street Fighter is getting a strong boost of comic relief as sources tell Deadline that Andrew Schulz has joined the cast. While not confirmed, sources say he will play the character Dan Hibiki.

He joins a cast that includes the previously announced Andrew Koji, Noah Centineo, Jason Momoa, Roman Reigns and Orville Peck. Bad Trip‘s Kitao Sakurai is the director.

Reps for Legendary had no comment and the plot details remain under wraps.

First appearing in Street Fighter Alpha in 1995, Hibiki is consistently portrayed as an overconfident, arrogant and utterly feeble character. The role seems perfect for Schulz given his comedic background that has made him one of today’s biggest stand-up acts. While this role will lean heavy on the comedy, don’t be surprised if Schulz gets a chance to throw down like his fellow co-stars.

Launched in 1987, Street Fighter is a series of fighting games revolving around intense one-on-one battles between a diverse cast of martial artists. The games often center around a global fighting tournament organized by M. Bison, the leader of the evil organization Shadaloo. Street Fighter has sold over 55 million units worldwide since launch, making it one of the most well-known and highest-grossing video game franchises of all time.

Schulz has had himself quite the year outside stand-up starting with his podcast, Flagrant Pod, which ranks as one of the top comedy podcasts and was recently profiled by the New York Times for the major political guests recently featured on the show.

He can also be seen on the latest season of Netflix’s Tires starring Shane Gillis, and recently dropped his latest Netflix special Andrew Schulz: Life on the streamer.

While this marks one of his largest film roles to date, his past credits include White Men Can’t Jump and The Underdoggs. He is repped by CAA.
