Illinois Department of Commerce & Economic Opportunity says John Deere’s mass layoff notice was internal error


EAST MOLINE, Ill. (KWQC) – The Illinois Department of Commerce & Economic Opportunity says Deere & Company’s mass layoff notice filed for John Deere Harvester in East Moline on Wednesday was an internal error.

Over 230 John Deere employees laid off at 3 facilities

As of 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, the Illinois Worknet Center website said there will be a total of 819 layoffs at John Deere Harvester Works, which began September of 2023.

In a statement Friday, the Illinois Department of Commerce & Economic Opportunity said:

There was an internal error, which has now been corrected. We sincerely apologize for the oversight, and we are evaluating our processes to ensure a similar error does not occur in the future. We appreciate members of the media bringing this to our attention.

Deere & Company filed a mass layoff notice for John Deere Harvester in East Moline on Wednesday.

In October of 2024, Deere confirmed more than 200 people would lose jobs at Harvester Works in East Moline. The company also laid off 80 at Davenport Works and seven at Moline Seeding.

Deere & Company had an earnings call Thursday.

A company spokesperson said in a statement:
