AEW GRAND SLAM MEXICO RESULTS AND LIVE BLOG FOR JUNE 18
Now that you’re out, you can look fot the ones who condemned you, show the world that you’re not just a pawn in this game. All of their faces you see in your mind, your memories build up into hate, but me? I’m just here to liveblog this pro wrestling show for you, folks.
The show opens with the intro video.
Excalibur welcomes us to the show as we pan around the always wonderful Arena Mexico crowd.
“Hangman” Adam Page makes his entrance and gets on the mic.
He introduces himself in Spanish and keeps going in Spanish, Excalibur translates some, saying he says he grew up on a farm and talks about the workers who came to take care of that farm and thanks the crowd for having him in their house tonight. He says AEW and CMLL are united in having the best wrestling in the world and calls out our champion, Jon Moxley.
He says he won’t be wrestling tonight and he’s banned from the arena during the main event tonight, but nobody said anything about after the match, and then something about somebody’s mother that Excalibur refuses to translate but gets a “Cowboy shit!” chant from the crowd. He thanks the crowd again and leaves.
Commentary hypes up tonight’s show.
Dax Harwood and Stokely Hathaway make their entrance and Stoke gets on the mic.
He has good news and bad news, and says the bad news is that Cash Wheeler couldn’t make it to the show tonight due to circumstances beyond his control, but the good news is that one and a half of FTR is here in him and Dax, and he’s been working so hard on his Spanish, telling the crowd… “grassy ass?”
Adam Cole, Atlantis, Atlantis, Jr., Bandido, Brody King, Daniel Garcia, & Templario vs. Dax Harwood, Don Callis Family (Hechicero, Josh Alexander, Konosuke Takeshita, Kyle Fletcher, & Lance Archer), & Volador, Jr.
Bandido and Takeshita to start, circling, feeling out, finger gun stalemate, off the ropes, getting Konosuke up for a backbreaker rack knee, he slips out! Tijeras from Bandido, Takeshita to the floor and Hechicero comes in! Matrix evasion, victory roll into an inverted monkey flip dropped into a sleeper hold, Bandido counters with a back roll pin!
Nailing him in the corner, the sorcerer knee walks and Bandido bails, bringing Daniel Garcia in. Dance countered with a leg pick, roll through into a kneeling inverted surfboard, spin-out tijeras counters and Hechicero goes to the floor and Harwood comes in! Garcia mounted punches in the corner, Dax with a right and Atlantis, Jr. comes in! Kick from the apron, slingshot in, off the ropes, Sling Blade connects, cover for two!
Tag to Templario, missile dropkick Hart Attack connects, cover for two! Volador comes in, working with Harwood, superkicks and it’s Junior on Templario now! Templario tears his shirt off and comes of the ropes, slide under, duck a lariat, back roll up and over, double jump tijeras and a spinaroonie… SPACE FLYING TIGER DROP WIPES VOLADOR OUT!
King and Harwood legal now, big chop cuts Dax down and Archer comes in to meet the big man hoss for hoss! Whip across, Brody gets distracted with Alexander but Cole comes in with a chop block! Kicks cut Lance down to size… BRODY KING DEATH VALLEY DRIVER ON THE APRON TAKES JOSH OUT! Fletcher in with Adam now, knees get a lariat, Kyle unmoved, he catches a second lariat into a Tiger suplex!
Atlantis in, double leg into grounded punches on Fletcher, hammering him into the corner, getting turned around and his son clocks Kyle in the face! Everybody takes a turn hitting Fletcher until he falls to the floor! Babyface team poses and we go to break!
Back from commercial, Alexander in control on Garcia but Daniel tags Bandido in! Punching with wild abandon in the middle of the ring, Josh off the ropes, caught in a military press slam, Bandido up top, Alexander cuts him off with a belly-to-belly superplex… NOPE! Electric chair, Takeshita up top but Bandido slips out, shoves Alexander in a superkick from Templario!
Templario sets Josh up, opposite corners, jockeying for position… BANDIDO AND TEMPLARIO WITH STEREO MOONSAULT FALLAWAY SLAMS FOR STEREO NEARFALLS! Fletcher in to brawl with Bandido, drops him with a lariat, Atlantis, Jr. in with a superkick and he goes up top but Alexander shoves him down!
Back body drop puts Alexander back inside, Atlantis, Jr. gets a head of steam on the ramp for a big crossbody! Ring filling with men, four babyfaces with four heels in four corners raining mounted punches down! Chaos everywhere, Fletcher and Cole fighting up to the stage, King and Archer slugging it out in the middle of the ring!
Brody blows through a big boot, shoulder block takes Lance off his feet and sends him to the floor! Hechicero cuts King off with a diving elbow, fired up, off the ropes and Brody drops him with a tijeras! Off the ropes… BIG MAN SUICIDE DIVE CONNECTS! Atlantis comes in and calls Dax in for a brawl and they unload on each other with wild haymakers!
Harwood clubs the idol of the children down, draws him up, inside cradle counters… ATLANTIS DID IT!
Adam Cole, Atlantis, Atlantis, Jr., Bandido, Brody King, Daniel Garcia, & Templario win by pinfall with an inside cradle from Atlantis on Dax Harwood.
We get a recap of Kazuchika Okada aligning with Don Callis and assaulting Kenny Omega so bad he coughed up blood last week and we go to break.
Back from commercial, Mark Briscoe gets an inset promo where he says he considers Kenny Omega a friend and he’s got his back.

Okada immediately bails to the floor and takes a breather before coming back in to start for real. Circling, collar and elbow, Kazuchika backs him into the ropes and breaks clean with a chest pat. Putting boots to Mark in the corner, back suplex, Briscoe lands on his feet and starts up the Redneck Kung Fu, dropkick connects!
Rainmaker to the floor, Briscoe with a cannonball tope con giro! Back inside, back and forth, Okada sends Mark to the floor with a dropkick and we go to break!
Back from commercial, Okada with the flapjack, Briscoe fights out and hits an enzuigiri and both men are down! Mark lands a big chop, off the ropes, flying elbow, he’s feeling it, wind up, big lariat in the corner! Fisherman buster connects… SO CLOSE! Charging in the corner, Okada catches him with the Reverse Neckbreaker!
Diving elbow follows, Kazuchika flips him the bird and Briscoe bites down on the offending digit with his remaining side teeth! Exploder suplex sets him up, Froggy Bow… OKADA KICKS OUT! Back body drop, Briscoe pops back up, backslide, roll through, Kazuchika nails him with the dropkick! Mark gets the underhooks, Okada reverses and hits the Tombstone Piledriver!
Wrist clutched…
Kazuchika Okada wins by pinfall with the Rainmaker.
Post-match, Don Callis holds Briscoe up so Okada can clobber him with his AEW Continental Championship belt! They put boots to Mark after!
And so we go to break.
Maxwell Jacob Friedman vs. Mistico
Friedman shoves Mistico down and gives himself a round of applause and the crowd a rude gesture. “Culero!” chants rain down, Mistico takes Max off his feet now and MJF complains that he pulled his hair. Front kick, side headlock, shot off, duck a lariat, big chop from Mistico! Step up, arm drag, sunset flip for two!
MJF to the floor, Mistico off the ropes, Max sidesteps but the luchador sees it and stops himself short. Montel Vontavious Porter gives Friedman a pep talk at ringside, Mistico gives chase but the rest of the Hurt Syndicate are in the way! Mistico is game and asks them to move but Friedman comes screaming through with an elbow to lay him out!
Back inside, handful of tights puts Mistico into the turnbuckles and MJF puts boots to him before taunting the crowd in the turnbuckles! MVP warns him to keep his head in the match and Mistico grabs a jawbreaker, Yoshi Tonic blocked, powerbomb backbreaker over the knee… MISTICO KICKS OUT AND WE GO TO BREAK!
Back from commercial, Max in control, off the ropes, he saunters and bumps his dick into Mistico’s face! Mistico springs up fired up and wipes his mask off before asking MJF to keep punching! Strike rush in return, Max bites his forehead, whip reversed, handspring back elbow! A DDT sends Friedman to the floor and a plancha wipes him out!
Back inside, senton atomico connects, Mistico goes back up top, diving moonsault, nobody home, back roll through and he hits a snap scoop powerslam… STILL NO! Max spits in his face, ducks a lariat, pokes the eye, off the ropes and Mistico hits a superkick! Elbow connects, Mistico returns a flip piledriver, Max with a desperate grasping punch and both men are down and out!
MJF decides to take a walk, Mistico meets him on the stage, La Mistica blocked… TOMBSTONE PILEDRIVER ON THE STAGE! Max drags referee Bryce Remsberg back to the ring and demands the countout! Remsberg counts… HE BEATS THE COUNT! Max up top, Mistico meets him with a bunch of kicks, climbs up with him… AVALANCHE SPANISH FLY!
Mistico slow to capitalize and he gets a nearfall! La Mistica connects and Max taps but MVP distracts Bryce and he doesn’t see it! MJF hits him low, folding press… NOT ENOUGH! Friedman has had enough and kicks him low in full view of Remsberg!
Mistico wins by disqualification.
Post-match, Max puts boots to Mistico as the Hurt Syndicate get into the fray, beating him down! MJF calls for the unmasking and sits down on the luchador and tears his mask off! Max puts the mask on and Bandido, Templario, and Titan rush to the ring! Jet Speed appear from behind and send the Hurt Syndicate packing!
They put a fresh mask on Mistico and help him into the ring and send us to break.
Hologram vs. Lio Rush vs. Mascara Dorada vs. Ricochet (4 Million Peso Match)
Rush is the first to bail from the feeling out, taking the turnbuckle to taunt the crowd and turning around to see the other three backing him into the corner. Ricochet attacks Dorada from behind and Lio beats Hologram down! They shake hands and inaugurate their impromptu alliance by beating down babyfaces in the corners of the ring!
Babyfaces with superkicks, Hologram Arabian press double arm drag, big arm drag from Mascara, fired up! Stacking the heels up in the corner, charging lariats, alley oop missile dropkick and they go to the floor! Hologram squares up with Dorada, they run the ropes and get pulled to the floor by the heels!
Taking Dorada in the ring, Mascara gets the better of Ricochet, big rising knee, punches put Lio in the corner, whip across, back body drop to the apron, enzuigiri, perching but Ricochet knocks him down! Rush handspring kick takes Dorada out, Hologram with an enzuigiri from the apron, springboard crossbody but Ricochet cuts him down with a dropkick! Off the ropes, corkscrew tope on Mascara, Rush with an Asai moonsault on Hologram and we go to break!
Back from commercial, Rush with a frog splash on Hologram, he rubs Ricochet’s bald head and he’s not having it! A shoving match breaks out, Dorada returns behind them and dropkicks Rick into Lio! Poetry in Motion tijeras off of Ricochet, a tijeras for Rick too! Hologram returns, leg lariat takes Rush out, duck under Ricochet, Dorada with a flip piledriver!
Hologram and Mascara into it, drop down, leapfrog, off the ropes, dives on the heels in quick succession! Drop down, back handspring, up and over, to the apron, slide through the turnbuckles, slingshot back in, off the ropes, satellite DDT… NOPE! Dorada with a superkick, Hologram standing Spanish Fly, Mascara floats over, handspring crucifix driver connects!
Lio throws Ricochet to the floor, Dorada grabs him, he slips out, strike rush, off the ropes, Mascara with an enzuigiri! Ricochet wants Vertigo, denied, pop-up stomp connects! Poison Franksteiner gets Ricochet down and out, Lio reverses a fireman’s carry into a Poison Franksteiner! Dorada counters one of his own, jockeying for position, leapfrog, imploding springboard into the Poison Frankensteiner… MASCARA DORADA KICKS OUT!
Rush frog splash… RICOCHET BREAKS IT UP! Dropkick sends Hologram to the floor, drags Lio into position, up top, Rush cuts him off! Jockeying for position, block the Frankensteiner, Hologram comves over, backbreaker rack on Lio, he slips out, shoves him into Ricochet, Rush with a schoolboy and his feet on the ropes… STILL NO! Low Arabian press countered, backbreaker rack…
Hologram wins by pinfall with a revolution Argentine powerbomb, earning himself a four million peso payday.
Mercedes Mone vs. Zeuxis (c) (CMLL World Women’s Championship)
Zeuxis hot out the gates, big uppercut, kick in the corner, corner knees connect for a nearfall! Throwing her into the corner, Mone cuts her off, somersault senton caught into the Tombstone Codebreaker… SO CLOSE! Whip across, Mercedes floats over and into the Statement Maker!
To the floor, Mone with a kick from the apron, back inside, perching on the second rope for a Meteora… NOPE! Off the ropes, duck a lariat, tijers sends Mercedes to the floor, suicide dive connects and we go to break!
Back from commercial, Mone in control, headed up top, Zeuxis climbs to join her, avalanche Spanish Fly… STILL NO! Looking for the Statement Maker but the champ pries her grip apart, pumphandle slam for two! Up top, jockeying for position, Mercedes counters in midair…
Mercedes Mone wins by pinfall with a diving crossbody, becoming your new CMLL World Women’s Champion!
Post-match, a Toni Storm vignette plays on the tron wherein she’s playing a fast-talking noir detective who has come to Arena Mexico.
Mina Shirakawa appears at the top of the ramp… TONI STORM IS BEHIND MERCEDES DRESSED LIKE CARMEN SANDIEGO BABY! GERMAN SUPLEX SENDS MONE FLYING AND STORM GIVES CHASE OUT OF THE RING AND UP TO THE STAGE! REFEREES BREAK IT UP!
Toni grabs a mic from somewhere and shouts “LET THE GAMES BEGIN!” before breaking free and making ramp angels to send us to break.
Beast Mortos & Death Riders (Jon Moxley & Wheeler YUTA) & Young Bucks (Matthew & Nicholas Jackson) vs. Shane “Swerve” Strickland, the Opps (Katsuyori Shibata, Samoa Joe, & “Powerhouse” Will Hobbs) & Will Ospreay
Ospreay to start opposite Matthew but Jackson powerwalks back to the corner and tags Mortos in. Beast hauls off with a slap to the jaw, off the ropes, float over, charging uppercuts and lariats and kicks in the corner, pop-up Samoan drop connects! Will goes for a tijeras, countered, punches to the head, big chop, whip reversed, handspring back roll over!
Off the ropes, Will lands a Frankensteiner, Mortos to the floor, Ospreay off the ropes but Nicholas cuts him off with a gamengiri! Matthew in, double leg into a catapult / kick combo, diving stomp connects, Swerve runs in and gets caught with a gutbuster / neckbreaker combination! Will off the ropes, Manhattan Drops and chops, Nicholas gouges the injured eye and sends him flying with a tijeras!
Tag to YUTA, big back body drop cuts him off and Ospreay tags Strickland in! Double whip, uppercuts and elbows, snapmare, standing shooting star press from Will and Shane with a diving corkscrew uppercut and a strut! Duck under a kick, capture backbreaker, tag to Joe! Jabs in the corner, snapmare, chop to the back of the neck and an elbow drop, tag to Shibata!
Big right hand, tag to Hobbs, working Wheeler over! Jawbreaker gets him some separation at last and Moxley tags in! Brawling with Samoa in the middle of the ring, punch for punch, front kick, double bird, Joe gets him in the Coquina Clutch and all hell breaks loose! Ospreay up top… SKY TWISTER PRESS OFF THE POST AND INTO THE CRUSH AND WE GO TO BREAK!
Back from commercial, Moxley working Ospreay over, Will staggers him and tags Hobbs in! Powerhouse wrecking YUTA, corner lariats, short-arm lariat! The straps are down, squaring up with the Bucks, catching kicks, double goozles, Wheeler on his back but it takes Jon with a front kick to take Hobbs down and still he explodes off the ropes with enough lariats for everybody!
Ospreay and Swerve with stereo planchas, Shibata whips YUTA to the corner, he and Hobbs take it to him, Hesitation Dropkick sets up the half-halch suplex, , Powerhouse powerslam, Katsuyori with the cover, Mortos breaks it up! Spear takes Hobbs to the floor and a diving tornillo wipes him out! Back inside, big lariat for Shibata and the Beast is fired up!
Mortos turns to see Joe, they trade punches, charging in, big Rock Bottom out of the corner! Enzuigiri from a Buck, shiranui from the other, front kick, Ospreay dives into a Superkick Party but he counters the EVP Trigger into a double OsCutter! Strickland off the ropes… FOSBURY FLOP! YUTA HITS THE BUSAIKU KNEE BUT SHIBATA IMMEDIATELY PUTS A SLEEPER ON HIM!
Wheeler slings him off, Busaiku Knee connects but Katsuyori pops right up and blasts him with a Penalty Kick and both men are down! Tags made, it’s Swerve and Moxley slugging it out elbow for elbow in the middle of the ring! Will comes in, superkick, rolling thunder reverse STO from Shane, float over, CHASING THE DRAGON!
Ospreay sets Mox up but a Buck runs interference! Will takes him out, the other Buck knocks Strickland down, Jon rolls Shane up with a handful of tights…
Beast Mortos, Death Riders, & Young Bucks win by pinfall with a schoolboy pin and a handful of tights from Jon Moxley on Shane Strickland.
Post-match, Mox and the Bucks work Swerve over and Hangman arrives on schedule!
Page gets in the ring and starts slugging it out with Moxley punch for punch! Hanger fends YUTA off and gets sent to the apron, lines Moxley up, Buckshot takes a Buck out instead because Jon ducks! Nicholas drags Matthew off and gives Adam a betrayed look! Mox returns to the ring with the briefcase but finds himself surrounded by the Opps and Ospreay, so Death Riders beat a hasty retreat.
Hanger charges after the Death Riders up to the stage but referee Rick Knox backs him down. He stares the Bucks down on his way back to the ring.
