The Toronto Blue Jays have put off their rotation question for at least one more series.
Toronto will stay on turn through its next series against the Pittsburgh Pirates as Kevin Gausman, Max Scherzer and Chris Bassitt are slated to start during the three-game set.
With Shane Bieber now healthy and ready for his season and Blue Jays debut, the team will either have to move to a six-man rotation or bump one of its current five to the bullpen. However, due to a mix of pedigree and performance, there’s no obvious candidate for a switch to a reliever role.
The Jays acquired Bieber from the Cleveland Guardians at the trade deadline in exchange for prospect Khal Stephen.
He has been sidelined since April 2024 after undergoing Tommy John Surgery, but is coming off a third strong start at triple-A Buffalo on Friday and appears ready to return to the majors.
Toronto’s series against the Pirates runs Monday through Wednesday at PNC Park. Live coverage throughout will be available on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+.
First, however, it will look to complete a six-game homestand on Sunday with a sweep of the Texas Rangers.
