Updated 11:22 p.m. Aug. 11, 2025.

A Centre County man is dead after he was struck by a driver Monday morning in Snow Shoe Township.

Thomas E. Hipple, 73, of Snow Shoe, was killed in the crash on the 700 block of East Sycamore Road, Centre County Chief Deputy Coroner John Kubalak said on Monday afternoon.

An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.

Hipple was crossing the two-lane state route on foot at 9:09 a.m. when a 47-year-old Snow Shoe man driving a Hyundai Accent struck him head on, state police at Rockview wrote in a crash report. Hipple was knocked into the grass on the north side of the road and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver was uninjured. The crash report indicates he will be cited for a driving on roadways laned for traffic violation, but it was not immediately clear if he faces any other charges.

East Sycamore Road was closed for about three hours between Rees’ Truckstop and Fountain Road for state police to conduct a crash investigation.

Snow Shoe EMS, Mount Nittany EMS, Snow Shoe Fire Company, PennDOT, the Centre County Coroner’s Office and state police responded to the scene.
