Chrissy Metz is giving us her go-to spots that reflect her country girl roots. The “This Is Us” star, born and raised in Gainesville, FL, shared her short list of her hometown favorites at Lifetime’s summer soiree.
“She’s hot. Gainesville is hot,” Metz said about her hometown’s weather after recommending we have sunscreen and water on hand. But the actress also told our reporter, Courtney Tezeno, the hot spots that make her feel at home in Florida.
Splash in the Springs
Metz recommends taking in the natural beauty of Gainesville by stopping by the famous High Springs across the city. Popular choices include Gilchrist Blue Springs State Park, Ichetucknee Springs State Park, and Rainbow Springs State Park. Metz’s favorite? Ginnie Springs.
“There’s so many different springs that we grew up swimming in every summer. Listen, it’s so country we put the watermelon in the water to cool it down,” Metz said.
Visit Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park
For all the animal lovers, Metz suggests visiting Paynes Prairie, home to diverse wildlife spread across the 30 miles of trails just south of Gainesville.
“It’s a nature preserve with, also, I mean, wild horses and alligators and beautiful birds. I don’t think people get to see those beautiful aspects of Gainesville,” the actress, 44, said.
Go to a game at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium aka “The Swamp”
“Go Gators,” Metz proudly chanted. She’s a diehard fan of The University of Florida’s football team. So naturally, if you are looking to tailgate and watch an SEC college game, stop by “The Swamp,” also known as the Ben Hill Griffin Stadium for a home game.
These local gems are sure to help you also embrace your country roots if you’re ever in the Gainesville area. The actress may be in Hollywood now, but she’s never forgetting her country upbringing.
