• Final: Pham sharp groundout. My God. That’s 28 innings.
• Cruz flies out to deep right. Two down. Here’s Pham.
• Gonzales whiffs.
• Gonzales leads off the ninth. Andrés Muñoz, the closer, on the mound.
• End eighth inning. This game needs a mercy killing. It’s the most lopsided 1-0 game in baseball history.
• Reynolds with an ugly K. He’s had a terrible, terrible series.
• Cutch strikes out swinging. That’s two.
• Hayes swings out of his shoes and misses. One down in the eighth.
• Hayes batting for Horwitz. Imagine.
• Kiner-Falefa opens the Pittsburgh eighth by dropping a single into right.
• End seventh inning.
• Davis flies out to right. That’s 26.
• Wild pitch. Pham to second.
• Triolo lines out to second. Two outs.
• Pham singles after one out, and that’s it for Kirby. The righty Carlos Vargas on.
• End sixth inning.
• HOME RUN. Arozarena clubs one to left off Mlodzinski. Four-seamer down in the zone. Not the worst pitch ever. Mariners, 1-0
• Yeah, he’s done, as I’d thought. Carmen Mlodzinski’s on. Skenes’ five-inning line: No runs, five hits, 10 strikeouts, no walks, 78 pitches, 52 strikes. He’s good.
• End fifth inning. That’s 10 for Skenes. Rodriguez rung up. My guess is that’ll be it. He’s at 78 pitches, and his workload’s been reduced of late. But we’ll see. Not much happening in either bullpen out there.
• Nope. Horwitz fouls out. Runners left at the corners. That’s 24 innings.
• Kiner-Falefa flies out to right-center. Triolo takes third. Horwitz up.
• Davis slices a single into right. This is nuts. Two baserunners at the same time.
• Pham singles into right to open the Pittsburgh fifth, but Triolo promptly gets him erased on a 6-4 force.
• End fourth inning. And now nine. Down goes Garver. Watched 99 go by.
• Make that eight. Raley swings through high heat.
• Skenes freezes Arozarena with 98.3. First out of the Seattle fourth. He’s already at 7 Ks.
• More outs. More Ks. This is stupid. That’s 23 straight innings without scoring.
• End third inning. Polanco whiffs. Strands a runner at third.
• Raleigh skies out to center, Rodriguez to third.
• Rodriguez nails a double to the fence in right-center after one out. Here’s Raleigh with a base open. Just saying.
• Cutch check-swing K. Third out. One stranded.
• Horwitz pops out.
• Kiner-Falefa reaches on an E6 after one out.
• End second inning. Mastrobuoni whiffs over a change.
• Canzone singles past Triolo after two outs.
• Garver frozen by Skenes painting 99 on the outer black.
• Raley whiffs through 98.3 from Skenes.
• Good Lord, Kirby strikes out the side — Cruz, Pham, Triolo — on a dozen pitches.
• End first inning. Arozarena flies out to center. No runs, but that’s 20 pitches for Skenes.
• Ha! Even the umps take a side-jab at Crawford by saying in upholding the call that “the runner had a clear path to slide.” The key word being the last one. Two outs, runners on first and second.
• So Polanco singled into left-center, and the throw from Cruz, remarkably, got Crawford for no reason other than that he didn’t slide. The Mariners are challenging whether Davis blocked the plate, but that’s absurd. This’ll stand.
• Uh, why wouldn’t the dude slide? Seriously, what’s Crawford thinking there trying to stand up and score?
• Raleigh gets hit by a bender. Crowd boos, but Skenes wants that matchup all day.
• LOL Skenes just pumping heat now to Rodriguez and, eventually, rings him up.
• Ouch. Crawford swings at Skenes’ very first pitch, a splitter, and drills it into center.
• Gonzales slices into a foul-out in right. Third out. Here comes Skenes.
• Two Ks for Kirby already, both on really late swings by Horwitz and Reynolds.
• Cutch to me here last night: ‘Oh, they’re all fallin’ tomorrow.’ And then they do. He’s good.
• First pitch: Pirates vs. Mariners, Kirby to Horwitz, 4:11 p.m. Eastern, 72 degrees, wonderful
