Auburn football is set to face one if its former quarterbacks this season.
Zach Calzada, who’s entering his seventh season of college football, was named the starting quarterback at Kentucky, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel. He’s the second Auburn quarterback from the 2022 team to be named the starter elsewhere this season, after Robby Ashford was named the starter at Wake Forest on Sunday.
After a three-year stint at Texas A&M, Calzada spent the 2022 season at Auburn, but didn’t feature in any games due to a shoulder injury, earning a medical redshirt. That was his only season on the Plains, transferring to Incarnate Word for the next two years.
Shortly after arriving at Kentucky, Calzada had some negative things to say about his experience at Auburn.
“It was a tough patch, a lot of things that didn’t go my way, between people end up not being there that I thought were going to be there,“ Calzada told reporters in February. “I definitely have a bad taste in my mouth from that place and those people.”
Calzada’s return to Auburn is scheduled for Nov. 1, as Kentucky will look to avenge its 2024 loss to the Tigers.
