Heat Advisory impacts Puget Sound through Monday


Temperatures throughout the region are expected to hit the 80s to low 90s through Monday.

SEATTLE — A Heat Advisory is now in effect for the Puget Sound region and many areas along the Interstate 5 corridor. 

Residents from Snohomish County south to the Oregon border can expect temperatures in the low to mid-80s to low 90s through Monday. 

KING 5 has activated First Alert for this weather event, which could affect lives, property or travel in the Pacific Northwest region. During this event, the First Alert Weather Team will bring you the latest information to keep you and your family safe.

During a Heat Advisory, those sensitive to heat are urged to take extra precautions, especially those without effective cooling or adequate hydration. Children and pets should not be left unattended in vehicles, as temperatures inside can rise quickly in minutes. 

Doctors advise staying hydrated and watching for signs of heat exhaustion, which can begin in as little as 15 minutes. Symptoms include fatigue and muscle cramps and can lead to heatstroke, which may be fatal.

The Heat Advisory focuses on areas along the I-5 corridor from Everett south to Longview. well as much of the Cascade foothills. It also encompasses all of Kitsap County and stretches north to include parts of Skagit and Whatcom counties. Most of Central Washington is also under the advisory.

The advisory is in effect until 10 p.m. Monday.

Monday, lows stay the same with highs in the upper 70s to upper 80s. Some of the foothills and South Sound will again see temperatures nearing 90 degrees. 

Thing begins to cool off Tuesday, with lows in the mid-50s and highs in the 70s to low 80s.
