High wind warning issued: Very strong wind gusts expected in New Hampshire
Good Monday evening. I’m storm watch 9 meteorologist Matt Honig. The winds today have been very, very intense across much of the state, and an active weather pattern starting to subside *** bit though it will stay quite cold and breezy through the day on Tuesday. These are some of the top wind gusts so far today, and now that the sun has gone down on this Monday evening, I expect some of these numbers will start to. Come down *** bit. Look at Guilford earlier gusting up around 67 MPH. Newington 64 MPH there just over 60 in Hudson and just under that number in Temple and in Meredith. More impact weather tonight and into Tuesday as the winds continue, but they should not be quite as intense tomorrow. We’re looking at wind gusts topping about 40. 50 MPH statewide for the next 24 hours. On top of that, temperatures certainly feeling quite cold out there and the wind’s doing us no favors. By tomorrow morning, many of us will see wind chills subzero and yet again with these strong gusts, there could be some down tree limbs, even the chance for *** few additional isolated power outages through late tonight, *** high wind warning. for southern parts of the state that’s this orange color here in the lighter shade of brown. That’s *** wind advisory. Bottom line here is winds will continue to gust at times up over 40 to 45 MPH. Even tomorrow morning, it is still quite breezy, and the winds ramp up again late morning and early afternoon. Some areas once again touching 40, 45, even 50 MPH. Now the other thing we’re watching this evening is this band of lake effect snow coming right off of Lake Ontario right around 6:30 this evening we received *** report of some flurries in New Ipswich. It’s not out of the question that parts of southwestern New Hampshire could see *** light dusting of snow out of this band as the outer reaches of it just extend into parts of the Meadnock region, but otherwise the weather remains quiet tonight. Though it is quite cold and windy, near or just below zero, far north, but single numbers and teens elsewhere by early tomorrow morning. With the wind, it is just so much colder at the bus stop tomorrow morning. It will feel like it’s anywhere from about 10 below in southern New Hampshire to as low as 20 or 25 below in northern parts of the state. So borderline dangerous cold to start Tuesday, and it doesn’t really feel that much better. Even with some sunshine tomorrow afternoon, actual temperatures, teens to near 20, but with the wind, it feels like it’s in the single digits. This latest shot of cold air follows what was *** very messy storm over the weekend, and that has shoved the jet stream well to our south. It will stay there through much of the week, and not only does it keep the chilly temperatures in place for the next several days, but it will also keep. More active weather away from us. This is Futurecast heading into Wednesday and Thursday. Looks like some energy will start to gather over the deep South and that moves through the mid-Atlantic states early on Thursday. Right now it looks like this area of low pressure that develops off the coastline will probably wind up staying to our south, but it’s really just *** few 100 mile difference between *** big winter storm over us yet again. And us completely missing out right now we’re leaning toward very minimal impacts here in New Hampshire. In fact, it may be *** front moving through northern New Hampshire that brings the chance for some flurries or scattered light snow showers, but much of our area expected to stay dry at this point through late week. That system may throw some clouds in our direction on Thursday. Otherwise it’s *** bright stretch of weather tomorrow and then again on Wednesday after *** chilly start Thursday morning. Temperatures wind up in the mid and upper twenties for the afternoon. *** bit of *** breeze kicks up again on Friday, but it should not be nearly as intense as what we’ve seen out there today. And in the extended forecast, it’s *** general warming trend with temperatures finally climbing back above freezing by Sunday and early next week.
