- Season two of Netflix’s “The Ultimatum: Queer Love” features a new cast of couples navigating relationship decisions in Miami, Florida.
- The show’s format involves couples splitting up and engaging in trial marriages with others to test their relationships.
- The first seven episodes were released Wednesday, June 25, with the final three airing Wednesday, July 2, on Netflix.
In 2023, Netflix released a spinoff of its reality show “The Ultimatum” with a twist: all of the couples were queer. Today, two years later, season two of “The Ultimatum: Queer Love,” hit the streaming platform with an all-new cast of couples. And this season is taking place in Florida, with couples based in Miami!
“‘The Ultimatum: Queer Love’ makes one thing abundantly clear: Straight couples don’t have a monopoly on commitment issues,” Netflix announced in May. “Brace yourself for even more dating chaos, because the experiment is about to return for Season 2.”
If you’re unfamiliar, “The Ultimatum” shows follow couples – each with one person who’s ready to get engaged and one person who’s hesitant – who must decide to either get married or break up.
To test their relationships, each person pairs up with a person from one of the other couples for a “trial marriage.” At the end of the trial, they decide if they want to return to their partner and take the next step in their relationship, continue a relationship with their trial partner or leave the show alone.
Here’s what to know about season 2 of “The Ultimatum: Queer Love” and how to watch the first seven episodes, which dropped today.
Is ‘Ultimatum: Queer Love’ getting a season 2?
Yes! In May, Netflix announced that the one-season spinoff would return in June.
The first seven episodes of season two hit Netflix today, Wednesday, June 25, and the last three episodes will be released on Wednesday, July 2.
What city is queer ‘Ultimatum’ in?
The first season of “The Ultimatum: Queer Love” took place in San Diego, California. But this season will travel to the Sunshine State, taking place in Miami.
“Get ready for parasailing dates and poolside confrontations, because this time around, a group of couples based in Miami are entering the experiment,” Netflix says.

In the upcoming season of “The Ultimatum: Queer Love,” six couples will be tested for eight weeks, as they decide whether to tie the knot or go their separate ways.
Here’s the Miami-based cast, according to Netflix:
- AJ and Britney: AJ and Britney have been together for five years. AJ is an administrative assistant and MC. Britney is a registered nurse and entrepreneur. “AJ is hesitant to marry Britney because she doesn’t want to always come second place to her ambitious partner’s business,” Netflix says. AJ’s Netflix profile also says she was once an Orlando radio personality.
- Haley and Pilar: Haley and Pilar have been together for 10 years. Haley is a food scientist and Pilar is a physical therapist. “After a decade of being happily partnered with Pilar, she’s ready to exercise her right to wed the love of her life,” Netflix says. But Pilar views marriage as a social construct and has complicated feelings about her parents, who openly oppose her relationship with Haley.
- Kyle and Bridget: Kyle and Bridget have been together for two and a half years. Kyle is a graphic designer, and Bridget is a writer and bartender. Kyle is ready to commit to Bridget and sees marriage as a nonnegotiable, but Bridget says marriage feels unnecessary and told Netflix “I don’t really understand the point.”
- Mel and Marie: Mel and Marie have been together for four years. They own a food truck together, for which Mel is the chef. Marie wants to take the next step in their relationship, telling Netflix that she wants to know where she’s going in life and is looking for “direction” in her relationship. Mel says she feels there are a few things they “need to get in order” before taking the leap.
- Dayna and Magan: Dayna and Magan have been together for one and a half years. Dayna is a relationship manager and Magan is a business manager. Dayna told Netflix she’s “ready to be more serious and plan a future with Magan,” but Magan doesn’t feel ready to take that step yet.
- Ashley and Marita: Ashley and Marita have been together for three years. Ashley is an account manager and Marita is an account executive. Ashley says she’s tired of Marita’s “inconsistency” and feels that Marita “seeks feelings elsewhere with other people.” Marita told Netflix that she feels Ashley could make romance more of a priority in their relationship.
Where can I watch new ‘The Ultimatum: Queer Love’ episodes?
The first seven episodes of “The Ultimatum: Queer Love” season two are available to stream on Netflix as of today, Wednesday, June 25.
The last three episodes of the season will hit the platform in one week, on Wednesday, July 2.
Who is the host of ‘The Ultimatum: Queer Love’?
Actress JoAnna Garcia Swisher – of “Sweet Magnolias,” “Gossip Girl” and “Reba” fame – is returning as the host of “The Ultimatum: Queer Love.”
“I loved the idea of hosting a show, but when it was an opportunity to help tell this story of celebrating queer love, I thought, ‘Yes, this is the right moment’ and I just jumped in with two feet,” Garcia Swisher told Netflix.
“We cannot ignore the importance of celebrating queer relationships. There are incredible complexities and nuances to them that should be respected, but in many ways, they’re exactly the same as a non-queer relationship. We all deserve our happy ending — whatever that looks like.”
How does ‘The Ultimatum’ show work?
Here’s a breakdown of the format of the show, if you’ve never seen it or need a refresher:
- Six couples will enter the experiment because one has issued an ultimatum: Get married or move on.
- The couples split up to date and get to know the other newly single women and non-binary participants.
- Each person decides who they’d like to enter a trial marriage with (excluding their original partner).
- The trial spouses live together for three weeks.
- After the trial marriage, all the participants meet again at the “changeover,” where they reunite with their original partners.
- Following another three-week trial marriage, each person must decide if they’re ready to take the leap with their partner, pursue a relationship with their trial partner or leave alone.
