With the newest addition to the Superman movie series set to hit theaters on July 11, 2025, promotion of the film has ramped up recently. This includes the new trailer that was released on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, which was met with mixed reviews from fans.
While the debate over the James Gunn-directed film will continue even after its premiere, there was one aspect of the trailer that virtually all fans agreed they loved—but it was easy to miss.
Thankfully, many fans did catch the unique moment in the trailer, so it began sweeping social media shortly after. As one user posted on X, Gunn paid homage to one of the most popular Superman actors of all time, Christopher Reeve.
As seen above, the news anchor spotted in the trailer is ABC News correspondent William Reeve, son of the aforementioned former Superman actor.
It’s a great catch by the fan above, but also an incredibly cool addition to the movie by Gunn. Reeve played the role in the 1978 movie and the sequels that followed, starring as Superman in four movies.
The 2025 film will feature David Corenswet as the Man of Steel, with Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor.
While there’s plenty of intrigue surrounding the upcoming Superman movie, it appears the DC Universe is also prepping for a few other interesting films in the near future. On Thursday, May 15, 2025, Gunn replied to a question on X about whether there were any updates on a Wonder Woman movie, stating he couldn’t share “publicly yet,” but teasing that talks around the film were “encouraging.”
While that’s not a guarantee that a Wonder Woman movie is on the horizon, it’s apparent the studio is in talks about what will come after Superman.
