NBA star guard Kyrie Irving used his Twitch platform to speak about his theories on Bill Gates, warning fans about farmland ownership, water control, and imaginable food manipulation
Kyrie Irving is no stranger to controversy or conspiracy theories, but the Dallas Mavericks star’s latest Twitch livestream opened a new can of worms and joined the beef toward Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates regarding farmland and the nation’s water supply.
Irving has built a loyal following on Twitch of over 350k followers. The NBA star regularly plays Call of Duty while also speaking about life, philosophy, spirituality, and more. His latest stream on Friday questioned Gates’ farm land ownership purposes.
“I still think that it’s weird that the Gates family, Bill Gates, owns a lot of the land in North Dakota,” Irving said on stream. “He owns the majority of the water in the United States. I think that’s weird. Whatever. To each his own. This is for informational purposes only.
“When you go to the grocery store and you see some products that are on there that they spray with a bunch of —-,” he trailed off, before suggesting people dig deeper into the origins of their food and what’s being added to it.

While a vocal group on X considers Irving a conspiracy theorist, there is truth behind his claims.
According to data from Land Income, Gates owns roughly 275,000 acres of farmland across 19 states, making him the largest private owner of farmland in the United States. His land holdings include vast plots in Louisiana, Arkansas, Nebraska, and even 100 Circle Farms in Washington, which famously supplies potatoes to McDonald’s.
Experts say that while farmland ownership often includes water rights, there is no evidence that Gates owns most U.S. water infrastructure or access.
Some suggest that he owns the water under each farm’s ground.
The U.S. government owns the country’s most reported water supply, with 492 operational dams and 338 reservoirs, totaling 245 million acre-feet of storage capacity.
The Public Trust Doctrine in North Dakota is responsible for the protection and management of the state’s natural resources.
Conspiracy theorists believe that Gates’ land and “water investments” are part of a more extravagant plan to manipulate the U.S. food system, restrict supply chains, or push artificial alternatives. Some fear he’s angling to control what Americans eat, while others point to political issues, including climate change, biotech, and more.
Gates has previously discussed conspiracy theories. During a Reddit “Ask Me Anything” session, the billionaire sought to clarify the facts.
“I own less than 1/4000 of the farmland in the U.S.,” Gates wrote.
“I have invested in these farms to make them more productive and create more jobs. There isn’t some grand scheme involved. In fact, all these decisions are made by a professional investment team.”
