(CNN) – Popular YouTuber MrBeast is being criticized for filming in some of Mexico’s most important archaeological sites.
In a video published over the weekend, MrBeast, whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson, and his team visited several sites, including Chichén Itzá.
Some of the sites are not accessible to the public.
The National Institute of Anthropology and History said both the visit and the recording were carried out through formal requests. However, those requests were made by local governments and the Federal Ministry of Tourism.
Mexico’s president has asked that Institute to provide information on the nature of the permit for the video and warned that there may be sanctions if the permit was violated.
The group also noted that certain scenes were dramatized and did not reflect actual events.
