Like many teams, the Green Bay Packers release an “unofficial” depth chart every week of the regular season. Unofficial is the caveat because coaches don’t actually put together the depth charts. But that doesn’t mean the depth chart doesn’t provide useful information.
The first regular season depth chart arrived for the Packers on Tuesday — five days before Matt LaFleur’s team takes on the Detroit Lions to open Week 1.
A few notable things from the Packers’ first unofficial depth chart of 2025:
— The Packers are listing Rasheed Walker as the starting left tackle and Sean Rhyan as the starting right guard, so Jordan Morgan might not be a Week 1 starter barring an injury elsewhere along the line. The five starters are, from left to right: Walker, Aaron Banks, Elgton Jenkins, Rhyan and Zach Tom. On Monday, Walker suggested he would be starting Week 1 at left tackle.
— The backup center is Rhyan, which is notable considering Jenkins has missed time with an unknown injury recently. Morgan would be the expected right guard if Rhyan moves over to center.
— No surprise, but there’s no waiting around for Matthew Golden. He’s listed as a starting wide receiver. Dontayvion Wicks, in his third year, is a backup in the slot — the Packers didn’t just list the receivers by experience.
— Newcomer Micah Parsons is a starter at defensive end opposite Rashan Gary, while Colby Wooden has taken over Kenny Clark’s spot as the second starting defensive tackle next to Devonte Wyatt. Karl Brooks, Nazir Stackhouse and Warren Brinson are backups, but this could be a fluid situation.
— Lukas Van Ness, who is still waiting to make his first NFL start, is the third option at edge rusher. He had a strong summer and will be a factor despite the arrival of Parsons.
— Keisean Nixon and Nate Hobbs are the starting corners, suggesting Carrington Valentine is the third preferred option, as expected. Evan Williams is a starting safety over Javon Bullard, who will get time in the slot. Also, Bo Melton is ahead of Kamal Hadden at corner.
— Ty’Ron Hopper is a backup at two linebacker spots. He will be the preferred backup and No. 4 option — although he could easily rise up the ranks during the regular season. Isaiah McDuffie is the third starter with Quay Walker and Edgerrin Cooper.
— Who will return punts and kicks? Well, Mecole Hardman is available on the practice squad, but the Packers are listing Keisean Nixon as the No. 1 kickoff returner and Jayden Reed as the No. 1 punt returner. Golden is a backup punt returner; Bo Melton is a backup kickoff returner. Risking your No. 1 corner on kicks and your leading receiver from last year on punts is, well, risky.
