TULSA, OKLA. (KTUL) — The City of Tulsa and power companies are responding to last night’s storm and are preparing for more severe weather to come.
“We want to urge everybody to really stay weather aware going throughout the rest of the holiday, because we are looking at multiple days of storms. And it’s not going to be just heavy rain. It will be lightning, too, and lightning is a killer nationwide,” said Joseph Kralicek, the Executive Director of the Tulsa Area Emergency Management Agency.
Words of warning in preparation for upcoming storms, following last night’s severe weather which included wind gusts over 70 miles per hour.
“We had a pretty good storm roll through late last night, early this morning,” said Matt Rahn, a Spokesperson with PSO. “So as you can imagine, that caused some damage to, you know, our electrical grids and downed wires and broken cross arms and things like that.”
Last night’s weather caused a tree to fall on top of a Tulsa home last night, crashing into the roof.
Neighbors tell us that everyone living there is OK.
Jonathan Rinn with Sooner Recon roofing tells us he’s working to get the tree off the house.
“My main thing is making sure to get the tree off and dried in so she doesn’t have interior, you know, more interior damage than she already has,” said Jonathan Rinn with Sooner Recon Roofing.
Rinn says they installed the roof two years ago after another tree crashed into the house during the Father’s Day Storm.
“Oklahoma weather. I mean, it’s unpredictable,” said Rinn.
Joseph Kralicek with the Tulsa Area Emergency Management Agency says with the upcoming storms, their biggest concern right now is heavy rainfall.
Adding that first responders were called out to multiple traffic accidents today, caused by the heavy rainfall and wind.
“Street flooding is a major concern. So we want to urge everybody, if they see water across the roadway, to turn around and not drown. It’s very easy to become a stranded motorist,” said Kralicek.
