MORRISTOWN, N.J. – MMA Junkie was on scene and reported live from Friday’s official UFC 316 fighter weigh-ins.
The early weigh-ins took place at the UFC host hotel in New Jersey and preceded the ceremonial weigh-ins for the fans, which take place at 5 p.m. ET at Prudential Center in nearby Newark. The same venue hosts Saturday’s event (pay-per-view, ESPN, ESPN+).
Twenty-five of 26 athletes hit their marks, but there was one sizable weight miss from UFC flyweight Ariane da Silva (formerly Lipski), who came in at 132 pounds for her flyweight bout vs. Cong Wang. At the time of publication, the promotion has not updated on the status of Saturday’s bout.
Bantamweight champion Merab Dvalishvili (19-4 MMA, 12-2 UFC) and ex-champ Sean O’Malley (18-2 MMA, 10-2 UFC), who meet in a main event title rematch both made weight, as did women’s bantamweight titleholder Julianna Peña (13-5 MMA, 8-3 UFC) and two-time Olympic gold medalist, two-time PFL champion and 8-1 betting favorite Kayla Harrison (18-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC) in the co-feature.
