Rosalía Doesn’t Feel ‘Pressure’ to Define Sexuality After Dating Hunter Schafer

Don’t expect Rosalía to come out anytime soon.

Last year, actress Hunter Schafer revealed to GQ that she and the Spanish musician were “once romantically involved” for five months in 2019. In a new Elle cover story, Rosalía, 32, candidly shared her thoughts on whether defining her sexuality is necessary.

“No, I do not pressure myself,” she told the outlet of declaring a sexual identity. “I think of freedom. That’s what guides me.”

In Schafer’s GQ interview, she addressed longtime “speculation” about their relationship and claimed they continue to have a “really beautiful” friendship.

She said at the time, “Part of us just wants to get it over with, and then another part is like, ‘It’s none of anybody’s f—— business!’”

“It’s something I’m happy to share. And I think she feels that way too,” added Schafer, 26. “She’s family no matter what.”

Not only are the pair still platonically close, but they’re both set to star in the upcoming third season of HBO’s Euphoria, on which Schafer plays one of the lead characters, Jules.

Rosalía’s role in the show is currently unknown, but she spoke to Elle about making friends with costars Zendaya and Alexa Demie on set. “I have good friends there. It feels really nice to be able to find each other,” she said.

Euphoria writer, director and producer Sam Levinson also spoke to the publication about working with Rosalía on the dramatic series.

“I love unleashing her on a scene,” he said. “I let her play with the words, the emotions, in English and Spanish. I never want to tell her what to do first, because her natural instincts are so fascinating, charismatic, and funny. Every scene we shoot, I’m behind the camera smiling.”

Aside from Schafer, Rosalía has been romantically linked in the past to musician Rauw Alejandro and actor Jeremy Allen White.
