Sebastian Ofner takes on Casper Ruud in a 2025 U.S. Open first-round match tonight at Louis Armstrong Stadium.
Ruud, currently ranked world No. 13, almost won it all here in Flushing in 2022, falling to Carlos Alcaraz in the final in four sets. He’s had a disappointing second half of this season after winning his first Masters 1000 in Madrid.
A dominant player on both hard courts and clay, he exited Roland Garros in the second round — a disappointing outcome that seems to have carried over into the hard-court season.
Ruud will look to regain his form tonight against Ofner, ranked No. 140, who has seen mainly first-round exits as of late, but defeated Tommy Paul at Wimbledon in the second round and beat Frances Tiafoe at the ATP Masters in Rome. Ofner is capable of pulling off a surprise, but has performed better on clay in recent years.
Ofner-Ruud Head-to-Head
Ruud leads the head-to-head 2–0, including victories in Geneva and Bastad, both on clay. This will be their first meeting on hard court.Â
Prediction
Ruud in straight sets. This won’t be a cakewalk for Ruud, but expect him to overcome Ofner comfortably as he looks to make a deep run at Flushing Meadows.
