- Senegal vs Congo – 5pm
- Sudan vs Nigeria – 8pm
Senegal could become only the second team to confirm their place in the quarter finals of the TotalEnergies Africa Nations Championship 2024 if they beat Congo on Tuesday.
The defending champions saw off West African giants in their opening match and will be favourites against a Congo side that drew 1-1 with Sudan.
Lions of Teranga coach Souleymane Diallo has confirmed scouting Congo and knows a thing or two about their game.
“We sent colleagues who watched Congo’s first game, and a report was sent to me, which I exploited, and we’ll prepare our game approach based on that report,” Diallo revealed.
“It’s a team that plays well as a unit, very resilient, and they play well on both flanks, utilizing a 4-2-3-1 formation with wing-backs providing width.”
Congo Head coach Barthélemy Ngatsono has sent warning shots to the defending champions revealing he picked lessons from Sudan’s game.
“After the Sudan game, we took away both positives and negatives,” Ngatsono said.
“But we’ve trained with full awareness of what’s at stake against Senegal. We didn’t come here just to watch others lift the trophy. Like every other team, we’re here for results.”
In the later game, Sudan take on wounded Nigeria in a fixture the Super Eagles must win to remain hopeful of reaching the quarter finals.
For Sudan’s head coach Kwesi Appiah, it’s not just another match, it’s a chance to set the record straight.
“So far, preparation has gone really well,” said Appiah, speaking with composed confidence. “Our last game against Congo didn’t go entirely our way, but now we have the opportunity to turn the tables.”
