Shower, thunderstorm chances linger in Las Vegas with below-average temps

Shower and storm chances will linger throughout the day on Wednesday with below normal temperatures.

After yesterday’s high of 96 degrees and low temperature of 85 degrees, temperatures will be even lower on Wednesday!

TODAY: We’ll see variable clouds in Las Vegas with high temperatures only reaching around 94 degrees. A chance of showers and thunderstorms will be possible, about 40% odds with the best chances of storms in the mountains. Winds will be out of the northwest up to 10 mph, becoming stronger when storms develop.

Main threats from thunderstorms this week will be areas of heavy rain possible, gusty winds and lightning.

Air quality is ranked ‘good’ to ‘moderate’ for ozone and pollen levels are ‘low.’

TONIGHT: Skies will become partly cloudy this evening with a chance of showers and storms before midnight. Valley low temperatures will drop to the mid to upper 70s.

WHAT’S NEXT: Monsoon moisture in place will help fuel shower and storm development again on Thursday, with slight chances on Friday as moisture slowly retreats eastward.

We’re keeping a close eye on Hurricane Lorena in the eastern Pacific as it approaches Baja… There will be no direct impact from this system in Southern Nevada. It will make landfall in Mexico at the end of the week. Moisture from the system will mainly impact areas in Arizona and New Mexico. However, the timing of the moisture moving east from Southern Nevada MAY be delayed due to Lorena.

As of right now, shower and storm chances linger locally through Friday with drier air expected by this weekend.

So far, only .02″ of rain has fallen at Reid International Airport during this monsoon season, making it the 4th driest monsoon season in Las Vegas so far.

Since midnight, we have seen about .04″ of rain fall in Summerlin & the Seven Hills/Anthem area, along with .12″ of rain in parts of North Las Vegas.

Weather models indicate we could get at least another .03″ of rain over the next few days in Las Vegas, which would knock us out of the 4th driest monsoon season spot.
