CHELAN, Wash. – The search for Travis Decker, who is accused of killing his three daughters, continues nearly two months after the incident.
Chelan County Sheriff Mike Morrison shared insights into the ongoing investigation with NonStop Local Anchor Morgan Ashley.
Morrison expressed optimism about the efforts being made. “Our agency still feels optimistic. We’re energized, our detectives are still following through on leads… We haven’t given up, we still recognize we have a job to do,” he said.
Decker, 32, is believed to have killed his daughters in early June. Their bodies were discovered on June 2 near a campsite in the Upper Icicle Creek Valley, west of Leavenworth.
DNA evidence linked Decker to the crime scene, with blood samples matching his DNA found on the truck’s tailgate where his daughters were found.
Sheriff Morrison stated that they are focusing their efforts on the Icicle Creek area. “Yesterday’s efforts were certainly focused on researching the Icicle Creek area… to ensure we’ve done everything possible,” he said.
Decker is wanted on local and federal charges, including murder and kidnapping.
There is speculation that he may be receiving help in evading capture. “There’s always that potential… there are individuals out there that will take people underneath their wing,” Morrison noted. He urged anyone with information to “do the right thing, turn him in.”
Initially, police thought Decker might be heading out of the country along the Pacific Crest Trail, possibly towards Canada, based on his Google searches.
However, Sheriff Morrison acknowledged the possibility that Decker may not be alive. “There’s a possibility yes he could be alive, but the likelihood of him being alive in the wilderness and still being alive… not likely,” he stated.
