ATLANTA — With a Winter Storm Watch issued for much of north Georgia and a Weather Impact Alert in effect, 11Alive is actively monitoring school closures and delays. Arctic cold air and a Gulf Low will bring the potential for snow, sleet, and freezing rain at the end of the week.

Winter storm details
The 11Alive Weather Impact Team is forecasting a mix of snow, sleet, freezing rain, and cold rain starting Friday morning and lasting through early Saturday morning. The timeline and precipitation type vary by location:
- Far north Georgia mountains: Primarily snow, with 2–4 inches expected and localized higher totals possible.
- Metro Atlanta (north of I-20): A mix of snow and sleet early Friday, transitioning to freezing rain or rain later in the day. Accumulations of 1–3 inches of snow and sleet, with up to a tenth of an inch of ice.
- South of I-20: A wintry mix early Friday, changing to rain by the afternoon.
Hazardous travel conditions are likely during this event, especially on untreated roads.
